Journey Spiritual Retreat – Summer High School Life Camp
Every summer our high school students embark on a trip designed to make an impact on the lives of the needy by spreading compassion and justice where it is needed. Past summer mission trips have included building homes in Mexico, serving the homeless in Philadelphia & Nashville, rebuilding homes devastated by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, working with a rebuilding ministry to repair and rebuild homes for low-income people – many elderly or disabled – in coastal North Carolina, and the Ozarks in Arkansas.
Luke reminds us “Jesus often withdrew to lonely places…” (Luke 5:16)
He went into the mountains by himself, or walked by the sea where he experienced God’s presence. Jesus went on retreats – retreats where something significant happens. His 40 days in the wilderness was as much a retreat, as it was temptation. Retreats recharged Him and fueled His ministry.
Our souls need recharging as well. That’s why every few years instead of a mission trip, we will take part in a spiritual retreat to focus on our relationship with God and with each other, as well as connecting with nature through hikes in the mountains, river rafting, and rock climbing. Our destination this summer: Texas Creek, Colorado with Journey Quest, a Christian wilderness ministry based out of Colorado’s Arkansas River Valley
