Lazarus House Free Concert

lazarus house the need is now

Lazarus House is sponsoring its first “The Need is Now” community concert.  Relax with family and friends on September 22, at Lincoln Park in St. Charles from 5-9pm.

This event features music by “Betsy Petrie & The Souvenirs”.  They will entertain you with long-lost classic songs of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.  Bring a cooler and blanket or chairs, learn more about Lazarus House and enjoy music that’s the “oldies, but goodies”.

See how you can be a part of neighbors helping neighbors in the community at lazarushouse.net.

Backpack Drive

loaves fishesThe Rejoice Mission on the Bay team returns to Biloxi in October to help at Loaves and Fishes – a Community Kitchen. We are again collecting new or gently used backpacks or string bags for homeless adults in Biloxi, Mississippi.

The Homeless

Perhaps they’ve been forced from their homes because of a loss of employment due to an economic downturn or a long illness. Perhaps they are one of the many disabled Veterans forced to the streets these days.  The Rejoice Backpack Drive is a meaningful way to help those who find themselves making their beds on the beaches and in the woods of this part of Mississippi.

backpack contentsBudget for a loaded backpack – $25

Did you know that, with a little effort, you can pull together a backpack for under $25?  Here’s how:

  • Find a backpack at a local thrift or dollar store and budget between $1 and $5.  The backpack doesn’t need to be fancy (better if it’s not), but it does need to be adult size, functional, without tears and with working zips or Velcro closings.
  • Add some warmth and weather protection –  a t-shirt, socks, beanies, rain poncho, plastic sheet, bandanna, small fleece blanket.  Again, these don’t need to be new, but should be something you would be happy to receive.
  • Add some personal hygiene items – toothpaste and brush, razor, toilet paper, bar of soap, ziploc bags.  Note: the majority of recipients of the backpacks will be men.
  • Add some non-perishable food items – tinned tuna and/or chicken (cans that click open), package of crackers, peanut butter, applesauce, nuts, gum.
  • Add some extra love – a personal note of encouragement in whatever form suits you.   A small book of promise or a devotional is also a lovely addition.

Assemble your backpack and tag it as either male or female.  Bring it to Rejoice before October 19, 2018 and the mission team will arrange transport and delivery via our partners at Loaves and Fishes.

No time to do this?

Let us do it for you, complete and submit this form and we’ll build a backpack on your behalf for every $25 we receive.

Hand-holds for the Ascent!

The Vibe of Worship from September to Advent!!!

Climb Wall

As we make the passages of life, what can we hold on to with confidence?  What are the promises from God we can count on to hold us? Where are the safe resting places and holds that can spring us upward?  The hand-holds we need are firmly in place for the grabbing!!!

In growing our relationships with God, with each other and with those outside of our community we have the secure hand-holds we need. There is a lot to muse on with this theme so open your imaginations, come to the services and invite others!!!!

Get your climbing gear ready!!!!!!!

Seasonal Priorities – What’s Next?

We will be holding these meetings to answer any questions you might have as we begin this process.

Thursday 8/302018  Quetel’s  0N542 Armstrong Lane Geneva 7 pm
Sunday 9/2/2018 Church (after service)
Tuesday 9/4/2018 Debbie Matthiesen 1419 Fairway Circle Geneva 7 pm
Saturday 9/8/2018 Grahams 318 Downtown Geneva 8am-10am

I will be working with the council, staff, and our volunteer leaders to craft a comprehensive ministry growth plan to ensure that we are laser focused on acing our seasonal priorities, as well as developing a plan on how to fund this initiative.

Join an upcoming town hall meeting to learn more.

What will our plan look like?

The details of the ministry plan are still to be developed. Our belief is that God will bless our efforts to fulfill our priorities, and the results will be more people engaged in ministry at Rejoice, more authentic relationships being built, we will have more people whose lives are being transformed by the life-changing love of Christ and his followers.

Simply put, we will see and feel more JOY! Isn’t that what it is all about?

What role can you play in this?

We need your buy-in for this to work! We all need to pray for wisdom, courage, and guidance throughout this season, as none of this will be possible without God’s help.  We are asking everyone to pray about what part God might be calling you to play in our efforts to live out the mission God is calling us to.

What if I still have questions?

There are more questions to be answered as this is just the first step in the process. Please join one of the upcoming town halls or feel to contact Pastor Lou or me with any questions you might have.
